- Worn carriage belt
- Over time the rubber carriage belt which drives the carriage assembly can become worn. The belt will either become slack or the teeth will be shredded. Open the window to check if the carriage belt is slack or if there is a build-up of rubber debris inside the printer.
- Carriage rod
- The carriage rod is the small metal bar running the width of the printer which the carriage ‘slides’ along. This carriage rod needs to be kept clean & lubricated to allow free movement of the carriage. (You must only use HP lubricant)
- Dirty or damaged encoder strip
- The encoder strip is the thin metal strip which runs the width of your printer & on most models is located just above the slider rod. The printer uses the encoder strip to calculate the carriage position on the scan-axis. If the encoder strip is damaged or dirty then the encoder sensor will have issues reading the encoder strip position. Carefully clean the encoder strip with non-abrasive liquid and a lint-free cloth.
- Service Station
- Check the service station for blockages that could restrict the movement of the carriage.
